Shopping for Home Accents

Yesterday and today we were out shopping for some items to finish up our upstairs bedrooms. As I said before, we are trying to find some armoires, as we have not enough closet space in our 130 year old house. We also need to some area rugs to finish up our bedroom renovations. We are gradually renovating our old house, as a retirement project to keep us busy, to better enjoy our house, and to also make our house more saleable, should we decide to move on.

Our style is definitely vintage, with pieces that are old or look old (like us?), but neutral. I love warm whites and off-whites, and not too many pieces. It’s a problem then that I like to collect vintage pieces, but oh well. I will post our renovation before and afters regularly – I hope that you enjoy them. In the meantime – here are the little treasures that I found yesterday.

IKEA TÖRSLEV Rug, flatwoven

We stopped in at Ikea and bought this little Torslev area rug in off-white with blue/black stripes. It was only $29.99 – not big enough for our upstairs area rug requirements – but perfect for under the floor-scratching grain-scale coffee table in our family room.

At Michael’s where I was looking for mason jar labels, I found these Ashland’s salt and pepper shakers on clearance for less than $4. I like the way they pick up the same colour as the rug in the family room next door. They are also large enough to support my not-so-secret salt habit….

It’s only now that I realize these little treasures resemble the blue and white striped shirts I’m always wearing…. Do you ever buy the same things all the time? I know I do. I just didn’t know that I was buying household items, that resembled the way I dress.
